July 11, 2026 90 min (12:00 PM - 2:00 PM, GMT)
This presentation highlights key findings from doctoral research at Ghent University on the validation of advanced electrostatic testing platforms and energy harvesting from electrostatic charges in textiles. It covers the design and rigorous validation of automated devices that improve accuracy and reproducibility over traditional human-walking tests for floor coverings and fabrics. A major focus is the development and optimisation of Embroidery Triboelectric Nanogenerators (E-TENGs) using various yarns and embroidery parameters to maximise energy output for self-powered wearables. Applications explored include insoles for gait monitoring, moisture-sensing textiles, and electrospun materials for filtration and energy harvesting. The talk also briefly touches on broader research directions in frequency-selective surfaces (FSS) for electromagnetic control in smart textile systems. Attendees will gain practical insights into scalable, textile-integrated solutions for energy autonomy and sensing.
